FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I use Tilebrick?

It is perfectly suited for any external walling situation where the look and feel of tile-hanging is required. However, although it was principally developed for housebuilders to provide kerb appeal for private housing it will appeal to any builder wanting to build quicker and achieve a more durable finished cladding.

How does Tilebrick work?

Tilebricks are laid as bricks, but have dimensions to appear like plain tiles and gauge vertically and horizontally with standard brick and block coursing. Tapered edges on the Tilebricks allow effective rain-proof joints whilst maintaining a mortar free front face.

Tilebricks are laid on a 10mm thick mortar bed between courses, and the tapered perpend joints are buttered with mortar across two thirds of the Tilebrick width.

How does it work round corners?

As with standard plain tiles, the parts of the house to be tile-hung often include bay windows, 90° degree returns, windows and unusual angles at eaves. For this reason, we have designed an extensive range of complementary fittings to provide the complete cladding solution.

Will I have to adapt my house type designs to use Tilebrick?

Tilebrick co-ordinates with all standard masonry units and the Ibstock Design Service is on hand to help.

Is Rain Penetration a Problem?

Ceram Research has independently tested Tilebrick and found it to be as good as equivalent brickwork – so it is suitable for all exposure situations.

Do I need to specify different lintels, walls ties, cavity trays, insulation and weep holes?

No – they are all the same with the added benefit of no lead, battening, fixings and nails.

Is Cutting on Site a problem?

Ibstock can provide verges ready cut to the roof pitch and, together with the range of fittings, this minimises the need to cut on site. If it is required then it should be done with a diamond-tipped circular bench saw for the best result, alternatively Ibstock can provide a cut and bond service to suit most requirements.
